For everyone starting GoFundMes for people affected by the fires: please be mindful of how you word your descriptions. If the receiver plans to apply for FEMA help, the donated money can actually hurt their application if it’s worded in a way that will conflict with FEMA’s mission. By law, FEMA can’t give money toward something the applicant has already received money for. You can still create the GFM. Just be careful of using words that will disqualify them for FEMA as they absolutely will look at any GFMs made for the applicant. You must be as vague as possible. @pattyrodriguez has excellent tips (last pic).
